Healing Diverse Communities

This year’s virtual forum is designed to address the impact of systemic racism, social inequality, and poverty on the mental health of underserved communities of color.  This presentation will examine the need to destigmatize the concept of mental illness, how to develop and practice mental fitness and the importance of becoming a partner in the healing of your community. 

  

Erika Kendrick is a bestselling author, a national speaker, with a psychology degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is the founder of Mental Fitness for Life. While talking to audiences of all backgrounds and ages, including police departments, sheriff departments, and first responders, Erika inspires hope by creating safe spaces for life-saving conversations about mental illness.  In addition to working tirelessly on issues of suicide prevention, social and racial justice. Erika’s work includes lobbying annually at state capitals with the National Alliance on Mental Illness while speaking out on disparities, inequities and the need to decriminalize the mentally illness.  Erika has appeared on number of television, radio and podcast segments such as Good Morning America, NBC News, CBS News, FOX, ant The Wendy Williams Experience.

From Burnout to Resilience: Thriving in a Digital World

In the midst of a chaotic world, keynote speaker Hamza Khan delivered a talk about how to identify burnout and six strategies to reconnect with our core values to avoid burning out. He emphasized creating healthy, compassionate boundaries with ourselves, others, and the technology that we now use daily. Our opening speaker Amy Kathleen Lee shared coping tools to help us cultivate wellness and self-care practices.
